The National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) has announced fourteen grants, totaling $38,500, in its 2011 Railway HeritageGrants competition. Four NRHS chapters and ten other organizations received grants. The grants awarded included one for archival work and projects for preservation of several steam and diesel locomotives and an interurban car, a coach, a dining car, a Big John hopper, and “at the end,” a railcar (caboose), as well as a semaphore and projects related to exhibits. The grants were selected from 35 applications requesting a total of almost $143,500. Evaluation of the grants was undertaken by the NRHS Railway Heritage Grants Committee.
